You can link questions, sections, and steps in your bursary form so that they appear only when a specific response is given to an initial question—these are known as toggleable or conditional questions.
You will find that some of these are already set up in the Parent step of your form, but you can also create them yourself in any section (Settings > Application Form).
Example: Toggleable Question
In this example, when an applicant selects "Yes" for the question "Are you working?", a follow-up question is triggered, asking for the income details, which will appear in the next step.
Steps for Setting Up a Toggleable Question
To create a follow-up or conditional question, follow these steps:
-
Create the initial question – This should be a single-select or multi-select question with predefined answer choices for the applicant.
-
Create the follow-up question – This question will only appear based on the applicant's response to the initial question.
-
Edit the initial question – Click on the question, scroll down, and click the "Add a new field condition" button.
-
Set the condition –
-
Select at least one value from the dropdown (click inside the box to add multiple values).
-
Choose the triggered question (the follow-up question you created).
-
Click "Save".
-
-
Verify the link – Successfully linked questions will display a green banner, indicating they are conditional. You can test the setup using the "Preview Application Form" button at the top right of the page.
Toggleable Sections
Toggleable Sections work similarly to toggleable questions, except they trigger an entire section of questions instead of just one follow-up question.
Example:
If a student answers "Mother Only Parent" to a question asking about belonging to a Single Parent Family, it can trigger an entire section (a set of related questions) instead of a single follow-up question.
Steps to Create a Toggleable Section:
-
Edit the initial question and click "Add a new section condition".
-
Under "When Value is as Below", select "Mother Only Parent".
-
Under "Trigger Below Sections", select the section you want to be displayed.
-
Click "Save".
Now, when a student answers "Mother Only Parent", the "Mother/Partner" section will be displayed automatically.
Toggleable Steps
Toggleable Steps allow you to enable or disable an entire step based on an applicant’s response. This is useful if certain applicants need to answer additional questions, while others can skip unnecessary steps.
Example:
If a student answers "Father -No Parental Responsibility" to a question asking about belonging to a Single Parent Family, it can disable an entire step (Step 4: Income).
Steps to Create a Toggleable Step:
-
Locate the question that asks about Single Parent Family (usually found in the Parent Step).
-
Click the pencil icon to edit the question.
-
Scroll down to the Toggleable Step section.
-
Set the condition to determine when the step should be enabled or disabled.
A successfully linked step will display a yellow banner, indicating it is conditional.
Conditional Student Values
Conditional Student Values allow you to assign a specific value to an applicant based on their response.
This is particularly useful for ranking applicants in priority order, making it easier to categorize and identify them based on assigned values.
